Additional Info : | Was a Prefect at Hartley and flew the first flying model aeroplane at a Hartley Science Exhibition in 1966. Entered the Univeristy of Ceylon, Peradeniya in 1968 to study Veterinary Medicine. Completed BVSc in 1972 and was appointed as Asst.Lecturer in Human & Animal Physiology at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Ceylon in Jan. 1973. Went to W.Germany in Jan. 1974 (private scholarship)to train in Wildlife/Zoo Medicine. Proceeded to UK and specialised in Tropical Veterinary Medicine (DTVM) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1976). Got married in 1976 and took up a job as Veterinary Officcer with the Govt.of Nigeria and was posted to Jos in Plateau State (Nigeria).In 1979 proceeded to Singapore and was Zoo Veterinarian at Singapore Zoo. First son Reuben Thamilchelvan was born in Singapore in 1979. Returned to Nigeria in 1980 and worked in Nigeria until Dec. 1983. While in Nigeria, worked as field Veterinarain with both domestic and wild/zoo animals. In Jan. 1984, went to Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Davis, California, USA. Completed a double Masters Degree in International Agricultural Development/Wildlife Ecology in 1987. While in California, in 1988, second son, Benjamin Thamiltheeban was born. In 1988, worked as Epidemiologist for Dept. of Human Health, Sacramento.In 1989, went to Saudi Arabia as Zoo Veterinarian at Riyadh Zoo. In 1990, was recruited by the Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO)of the UN as Epidemiologist/Project Mamager for a Pan African Disease Control Project covering 34 African countries and was posted to Nairobi, Kenya. In 1992, joined the United Nations Environment Programme as an Environment Specialist and worked in Nairobi until 1998. Moved to Canada in Nov. 1998 and presently working as a Consultant in International/Rural Development, with the World Bank. Would very much like to return to Tamil Eelam after some years and help develop livestock and wildlife resources in Tamil Eelam. |
