Obituary Notice of Dr. Kandasamy Sivakumaran

We regret to inform that Hartleyite Dr. Kandasamy Sivakumaran (Rtd. Consultant Engineer) passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2016 in New Malden, Surrey, UK. He was from Thunnalai South, Karaveddy Sri Lanka, and has been living in the UK, since 1971.
Son of late Mr. Kandasamy & Sivakamipillai, Son-in-Law of late Mr. Chelliah & Parvathipillai, loving husband of Kalawathy, father of Nimalan, Ramanan & Shyaman, brother of Mr. Sivapalan & Sivasothy, father-in-law of Sonal, Natalia & Jananie, brother-in-law of Sarathamani & Mr. Suseelar and grandfather of Haydn & Ellis.
He studied at Hartley College from 1955 to 1964 -- Hartleyite - O/L Batch: 1962. He was the first student from Hartley College to have entered the university with an exemption of the first year studies. He did his Engineering Degree at University of Ceylon, Peradeniya from 1965 to 1968 and did a Post Graduate Degree at University of Bath, UK, from 1971 to 1974, which earned him a PhD. He later gained an MBA qualification in London
Dr. Sivakumaran started his career as a lecturer at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, and continued as consulting engineer after obtaining his Doctorate degree, working in various countries staring from the United Kingdom and moving on to Norway, Thailand, Netherland, China, Malaysia, USA, France and Japan.
During his time in the UK he was actively involved in the affairs of HCPPA and presided the Executive Committee for two consecutive years - 1994/95. During his later years he took a fancy for playing golf and developed skills high enough to compete with some well-known amateurs in golf, which he thoroughly enjoyed until his dying day.
Dr. Sivakumaran is survived by his wife, Kala, and his three sons Nim, Ram & Shyam, who are happily married with Ram having two little boys.
